Chocolate Crinkles

Chocolate Crinkles are my husbands favorite cookie. I made them for the first time not long after I got married. I wanted to make my new husband something special. Well they didn’t turn out very well. I followed the recipe and mixed it all up. Even though I’d never made them before I was pretty sure that something was wrong. The dough was thin like cake batter. I asked my husband if that was the way it was supposed to look. He wasn’t much help – he’d never made them only eaten them. I reviewed my recipe one last time to make sure I hadn’t forgotten anything then I put my thin batter in the fridge. I was pretty confident my cookie surprise was going to be a flop and it was.  My cookies ended up very, very flat – tasted good though. I decided to try a different recipe the next time. My recipe is adapted from Better Homes and Gardens, Chocolate Crinkles.

Chocolate Crinkles
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/4 cup oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups flour
1 cup powdered sugar
Mix together in large bowl: sugar, eggs, melted chocolate, oil, and vanilla. Stir in flour and baking powder until combined. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour, better if you can wait 2 hours. Roll into balls and coat with powdered sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 7 – 10 minutes. Transfer cookies to cooling rack and sprinkle with 2nd layer of powdered sugar. Try to keep husband and kids from eating entire batch in 20 minutes. Good luck!

  1. There are many cookie recipes where oil can be substituted for butter or margarine. Chocolate chip and oatmeal are two. But read labels – maybe there’s as much fat in one as the other!

  2. I’ve actually made something like this before with my mom growing up. They are so delicious! I can’t wait to try your recipe! I would love it if you linked this up to my Motivate Me Monday linky party and IT’S A ginger SNAP!
