Dad’s Wheat Rolls

My husband loves to cook and create as he goes.
He does have his failures now and then, but this is not one of them.
He is not terribly fond of bread, but a hot roll with raspberry jam is a different story.

2/3 cup Bulgar
1 cup boiling water
2 cups whole wheat flour
4-6 cups white flour
2 tbsp Saf yeast
2 tbsp salt
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup honey
2 eggs
2 cups very hot water

Pour boiling water over Bulgar and let sit for 30 minutes. In mixer bowl add 2 cups whole wheat flour, 2 cups white flour, yeast, powdered milk and salt. Mix together.  In another bowl mix together eggs, oil, Bulgar (do not drain) and honey.  Add to the mixture in bowl. Add enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough. Note: If your Bulgar is quite moist it will take more flour.  Let raise until double. Pour out onto floured board. Form into rolls. Makes 3 dozen.  Place on greased pans. Let raise until double.  Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minute or until golden brown.  Brush tops with softened butter. Serve hot with butter and your favorite jam.
