Pizza has been a favorite in our family forever. As with everyone we have our favorites places to just pick up a pizza on our way home from work, but we like to make our own as well.
We liked the idea of deep dish pizza but had never made one before. That has now changed and after looking at a few recipes and as usual we did our own thing.

This is what we put together and it turned out delicious. We call it
“Spicy Pizza Pie”.
Crust
3 cups flour
1 tbsp SAF yeast
1/2 tsp garlic granules
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp salt
1 cup hot water
In mixer bowl using a dough hook, mix 2 cups flour, garlic granules, yeast and salt. While mixing add water and olive oil. Slowly add remaining cup of flour to make a soft dough. Cover with cloth and let raise to double. Note: Dough will seem a little stiff but will become quit light.
Filling
1 pound hot Italian sausage
1/2 cup chopped red pepper
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup chopped onion
2 cups pizza sauce (your favorite brand)
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
4 cups grated Mozzarella cheese
6 oz turkey pepperoni
Brown and drain sausage. Add chopped vegetables and saute until crisp tender. Divide the meat mixture, cheeses and pepperoni into fourths.
When crust dough is ready divide into two pieces. Roll each piece into about a 10″ circle and place into 2 oiled 9″ pie pans. Fold back and pinch any dough that drapes over the edge. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Remove form oven and in each pie sprinkle 1 cup Mozzarella cheese in the bottom. Layer 1/4 the meat mixture then 1/4 pepperoni, 1/3 -1/2 cup pizza sauce then 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers starting with meat mixture and top with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese and 1 cup Mozzarella cheese. Return to oven and bake for 15 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes. Remove from pan as serve.
You must be careful not to eat too much! Enjoy!

Yummy! Oh my, I am hungry now! 🙂
Grab the ingredients and make one up. The left overs, if there are any, freeze great an warm up in the microwave like freshly made.
I make something very similar to this and it is fabulous! The biggest difference is mine has a top crust and is done in a spring form pan.
That sounds yummy too. Come see us again.
