Fall is such a great time of year. There are such great thing to make during harvest time. Along with Pumpkin goodies there are “APPLES”. We love apple pie and everyone has their favorite recipe.
I like to have fun with the pie crust.
Whenever I make a two crust pie I like to play with different ways to top it. I always make a little extra crust for two reasons. The first is so I can make shapes to put on the top. With apple pie of course it is apples. After the pie is ready to go into the oven, I roll out the dough and with a knife that has a very sharp point I cut out my apples and leaves. I brush the back side with water and gently place it on top the pie.
I make the vents through the leave or as the stems.
I brush the decor with milk and sprinkle the whole pie top lightly with granulated sugar and bake as usual.
It’s fun and gives you a chance to get those creative juices flowing.
The second reason for extra crust is “Cinnamon Strips”.
Now there is nothing special about cinnamon strips. You take what ever dough is left and roll it out evenly. Place it on a cookie sheet sprinkle with granulated sugar and then as much cinnamon as you wish. Cut into strips and put it in the oven. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until the edges start to turn golden brown. I don’t what it is, but the kids love them, even my kids that don’t like pie.
Make making pie fun!
