Ever since I saw the movie “Chocolat” and saw the vast amount of foods that are made with chocolate in them, I was so excited when John found this recipe. Of course he tweaked it as usual. I don’t think he really ever makes anything according to a recipe. He finds combination and then throws ingredients together. Some might even be in the original recipe. Here is John’s
“Turkey Chili”
This was made even before our eat healthy kick. It is great.
3 tbsp olive oil
2 lbs ground turkey
2 onions, chopped
2 large zucchini, chopped
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp ground cumin
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp salt
1/2 ground pepper
3 28 oz cans diced tomatoes
3 15 oz cans black beans, rinsed and drained
2 oz bitter sweet chocolate
In a large pot, heat the oil. Add ground turkey, cook and stir until browned. With a slotted spoon, transfer turkey to plate and set aside. Add onions and zucchini to pot and cook over medium heat until the onions are translucent, about 6-8 minutes. Stir in garlic, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt and pepper. Cook for one minute stirring constantly. Add the browned turkey, tomatoes with liquid, beans and chocolate. Stir until the chocolate melts. Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally. Serve with sour cream, grated cheese, chopped scallions and chopped jalapenos as garnish. The chili is also great with corn chips.
Did I tell you that John never makes a small pot of anything.
Enjoy!!!
