Country Fried Steak is one of my favorite things to order when I go out to eat. Sadly I don’t get out as often as I would like so I made make my favorite dishes at home.
Country Fried Steak
1 pound boneless top round steak (I like to buy cubed steak)
3/4 coup dry bread crumbs
2 teaspoons basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons flour
1 1/3 cups milk
Cut steak into serving sizes and tenderize. (I like skipping this step, that is why I get cubed steak.) In pie plate or other shallow pan combine bread crumbs, basil, salt, and pepper. In another dish combine egg (beaten) and milk. Dip meat beef into the egg mixture, then coat with bread crumb mixture.
In a skillet cook steak in hot oil over medium heat until done. Transfer meat to serving platter. For gravy add flour, salt, and pepper to drippings. Slowly stir in milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until thick. Serve gravy over steak, and don’t forget the mashed potatoes.
Enjoy!

This is making me so very hungry!! Down here in Texas we usually call it Chicken Fried Steak, and it’s a staple for everyone, lol. I don’t make it often at home because it’s such a mess when I do, lol. I get egg and flour everywhere.
I used to use country or chicken fried steak until I had chicken chicken fried steak. Now I get myself confused. Silly restaurant had to try and be clever and messed me all up. So now it’s Country Fried Steak. My kitchen gets a little messy too, it’s fun until clean up. :).
