I really look forward to camping food… because as you know this family loves food. Dutch Oven cooking is still new to me but I’ve already found a favorite recipe – Dutch Oven Cheese Potatoes. These potatoes always seen to taste even better when camping.
Camping is a much loved activity for our family in the summer. My daughter was so excited the first time she went camping that when she found out we were not going right home after our first little day trip excitedly exclaimed, ” More Camping!”
Poor kid is going to be quoted and teased all her life.
My little campers even love these potatoes so that makes them a big keeper. If you you like potatoes you are going to love this recipe.
They are super easy to prepare too. I cooked the bacon, shredded the cheese, and diced the onion before we left for vacation. I also washed the potatoes. So the only thing I had to do at camp was slice the potatoes and layer everything in the dutch oven.
- 1 pound bacon
- 5 pounds potatoes
- ½ onion
- 1 cube butter
- 1 - 2 cups cheese
- Pre cook bacon before camping trip.
- Line dutch oven with heavy duty aluminum foil.
- Slice potatoes.
- Layer the sliced potatoes, bacon, onions, and slices of butter.
- Cover potatoes, place on camping stove, and cook on low.
- Stir potatoes every 15 min.
- Cook for 30 - 60 min.
- When fully cooked sprinkle cheese and cover until melted.
- Serve and enjoy!
