Heavenly Vanilla Custard Ice Cream

We love to have family picnics, barbecues, back yard parties, etc. on the summer holidays. One of our favorite things to do is to get out the old hand crank ice cream freezer and make homemade ice cream. The family’s favorite is our

“Heavenly Vanilla Custard Ice Cream.”

The grand children love to help crank … okay it looks like a good batch.
But their favorite part is the anticipation of those first spoonfuls as we take out the dasher….
Heavenly Vanilla Custard Ice Cream

3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp flour
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups 1% milk
2 beaten eggs
2 cups half and half
1 1/2 tbsp vanilla
In a medium sauce pan, combine sugar, flour and salt.  Whisk in milk.  Cook and stir over low heat until it coats the back of a spoon.  Temper eggs and add to hot milk mixture.  Cook and stir one minute.  Do not over cook as it will curdle the eggs.  Chill.  Stir the custard, half and half and the vanilla together. Freeze mixture according to manufacture’s directions of your ice cream freezer.  It is great served with
fresh strawberries or peaches.
Delicious!!!
Make some for your next family get together.
