Keep Kids Busy on Vacation

July 9, 2013 by Margaret Leave a Comment

Its almost vacation time for our family. One of my main tasks in getting ready has been, “what are the kids going to do during down time.” I’ve collected a few things in hopes of keeping my kids happy at the campground. I tried to keep things small so they are easily carried by little people.

  •  new little toy
  • water bottle
  • bubbles
  • color books
  • stickers
  • activity book
  • glow sticks
  • magnets/cookie sheet
  • and a bag to put it all in.

I’m really excited about my other purchases. I found a Toss and Catch game at Old Navy. Now we have a set to add to Grandma and Grandpa’s game. I’m hoping this will be fun for the whole family.  I also finally bought sewing cards. I’ve been wanting these for a long time. These are made of wood so they should survive camping. I found them on Amazon.com – aren’t Melissa & Doug Toys the greatest.  I hope the kids like my surprise.

We also picked a campground with a playground and pool. Hoping to stave off any boredom. The kids have been a big focus in our planning. We want them to have a good experience on their first camping trip. If the kids are happy  the greater the chance that Mom’s and Dad’s will be happy too.

Happy Vacation!

The Getaway

May 15, 2013 by Margaret Leave a Comment

My husband and I have had a crazy busy few months at work.  We looked at our schedules and found that Mother’s Day weekend would be a great weekend to getaway.  Where to go?  What was North, McCall, we were just there last month for the “Shop Hop”. There isn’t much East that we wanted to see.  We go South all the time to visit family.  I told John that Portland was just 7 hours away and the coast not far from there.  That was the ticket.  Off to the Oregon Coast.  He made a reservation in Seaside, Oregon. We went with no plan except where to stay. What a great way to go for a short trip.  We went wherever we wanted to.  One of the highlights was the trip to the small town of Wheeler, Oregon population 350.  They have a fun little park on the river but most importantly they have a ”Quilt Shop”, Creative Fabrics and a great Antique Mall right next door.  It was easy to find too, it is right on Highway 101.  My husband is GREAT!  We visited 3 other quilt shops, one in Canon Beach and 2 in Astoria.

The weather was great and the Rhododendrons were in full bloom and they are not small bushes like the one in my front yard. They are huge and grow wild.  Work isn’t any less crazy, but it sure is nice to getaway from the rat race.
