Rediscover Old Favorite

I find it interesting how we have a tendency to get stuck in a rut. We seam to go through phases in our cooking. Favorite recipes get made over and over for a while then put on the shelf as we discover new ones. Then we make the new ones for awhile. While shopping in the meat department we found hamburger on special so we thought lets stock up. Got home and put in the freezer for future use, well as I thought about what to make I decided it was time to Rediscover an Old Favorite, Sloppy Joe This time with just a few minor adjustments.

For years I have used my mother’s recipe but my husband likes to change things up a little. So off to YouTube in search of new ideas. In that search he didn’t find much change for our recipe but he did discover a great new tool for the kitchen. Its a meat chopper and it’s great.

Recipe

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef 85/15

1 medium white onion, diced

1/2 – 3/4 cup celery, diced

15 ounce can diced tomatoes or Tomato sauce

1 cup beef broth

1/2 cup ketchup

1/2 cup barbecue sauce

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce  6 brioche buns toasted

1 cup cheddar cheese shredded

Directions

1. In a large skillet add the beef, celery and onions, cooking well, breaking it apart but leaving some chunks for 5-6 minutes.

2. Add in the canned diced tomatoes, beef broth, ketchup, BBQ sauce and Worcestershire sauce, cooking until the sauce starts to evaporate and the mixture becomes “sloppy” (about 5-6 minutes).

3. Spoon onto a bun or slice of toast and top white cheddar cheese.

YUM! An old favorite rediscovered.
