I have always loved to make hand made gifts. When my husband and I were first married, as most young couples are, we were on a tight budget. When gift giving time came around I realized that I could make a much nicer gift for a lot less money than I could purchase one. So thus a handmade gift on a budget.
My mother grew up during the depression and was a great one for that old saying “Use it up… Wear it out… Make it do… Or do without”. As a result I was taught to sew, crochet, knit, quilt etc. at a young age. To make a hand made gift on a budget became a lot easier having learned these skills.
A Solution
One of my favorite hand made gifts on a budget is a kitchen or tea towel that I have appliqued a cute design on. If you are a sewer you probably, like I do, have fabric scraps. Tea towels are regularly about $5 but I will wait and purchase 3 or 4 different ones when they go on sale for about $3.50 or less. I like to be prepared so I don’t have to purchase at full price. I can make a gift of 2 towels for under $10 that I would have to pay double or more to purchase.
In the beginning I used purchased patterns and then started making my own. Recently my daughters and I decided to start making patterns to sell so we can share our ideas with others.
Above are a couple of our new towel pattern designs that are now for sale in our Etsy shop.
These towels make wonderful gifts for bridal showers, weddings ( we’ll make 2-3 different holidays or sets) Mother’s Day, birthdays, housewarming or hostess gifts. I have found over the years that people really appreciate hand made gifts. Thought and love go into this kind of gift.
We are just getting started so subscribe to our email list to be notified of new patterns as they become available.
Just think of all the love you can share with your own Hand Made Gift On a Budget.
